A painting inspired by Dubai, but above all by life
Some places surprise us.
Not because they are beautiful or famous, but because they awaken something in us.
That is exactly the effect Dubai had on me.
When people hear the name Dubai, most imagine luxury, skyscrapers and a world of glamour. But I saw something else there: contrasts. A place where past and future exist side by side, as do stillness and bustle, desert and city, dreams and reality.
These feelings gave rise to my painting What Remains.
It is not about Dubai
It may sound strange, but this painting is not really about Dubai.
It is about what we take away from the places we visit.
Sometimes we visit a place that reminds us that life is not just about our goals, but also about the journey towards them. Behind every building, achievement or dream fulfilled lie time, courage and patience.
That is the feeling I wanted to bring to this painting.
Everyone will see something different in it
What I love most about abstract art is that it leaves room for your own story.
One person may find a memory of travelling in the painting.
Another may see a dream of a place they would like to visit one day.
For someone else, it may be a reminder that even seemingly impossible things take shape step by step.
And another person might find an entirely different meaning in it.
And that is as it should be.
Art does not have to explain everything. Sometimes it is enough to evoke a feeling.
What really remains?
Places change.
People come and go.
Time moves on.
Yet some moments stay with us far longer than we would expect.
Those are the moments this painting is about.
It is not about a particular city or a single journey.
It is about the memories, feelings and dreams we carry with us, wherever we happen to be.
What Remains is an original acrylic painting measuring 70 × 50 cm.
It may speak to someone who loves Dubai. Someone else may be drawn to it as a reminder of a place they dream of visiting. And perhaps someone will find their own story in it.
