The Most Beautiful Ride of a Lifetime

A black-and-white portrait of a grandfather with his two grandsons and a motocross bike bearing the number 69.

At first glance, it is a grandfather, two grandsons and a motorbike bearing the number 69.

But this painting is about something much bigger.

It was not based on a single photograph. It grew out of several memories, moments and stories, which I brought together to capture what mattered most.

Vašík and Toník have cheered their grandfather on at races since they were little. They are proud of him, and every moment they spend together around motorbikes means far more to them than just a ride.

When I was planning the painting, I wanted to capture more than just their faces.

I wanted to capture their bond.

I wanted to convey the sense of safety, admiration and love they share.

And that is exactly why I have grown to love this black-and-white illustrative style so much. It can bring out a person’s emotions and character so powerfully. It does not need dozens of colours. Just a few strokes, light and shade, and suddenly you can sense a story in the painting.

A story just like this one.

This is the story of a grandfather who gave his grandsons not only a love of motorbikes, but above all memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Because the most precious things cannot be measured or counted.

They can only be experienced. 🤎

Life’s most beautiful trophies do not fit in a display cabinet. They call you Grandad.
