Standard

An original abstract painting on canvas, available to buy. Standard reflects an age in which standards and norms are an everyday part of life. Colours such as grey, black, white and ochre blend across the canvas, suggesting the neutrality and stability associated with standards. Yet the painting also invites us to consider whether these standards are always necessary.

Today, we have the opportunity to achieve almost anything we wish, so it is important not only to take but also to give to others. Standard encourages us not to limit ourselves to what is considered ordinary, but to value diversity and individuality more deeply, and to share our wealth and achievements with those in need.

This painting was inspired by my cousin, the artist Simon Woods, who recently released a new album featuring a song called Standard. The song invites us to reflect on the everyday norms and standards that influence our lives, and carries an important message about the value of giving and sharing with others.
