Life is an art.

Life Is Art, a commissioned painting by Kristýna Smetanová – an abstract painting featuring a woman, wine and a message about life.

A commissioned painting shaped by its owner’s vision

Some commissions stay with me long after I have handed the painting over to its new owner. Not because they were more complicated than others, but because they carry a powerful idea. That is exactly the case with Life is an art.

Its future owner approached me with a clear vision. She did not simply want a painting that would complement her interior. She wanted a work that would remind her every day of what truly matters in life – the joy of ordinary moments, the courage to slow down and the ability to notice the beauty around her.

These are the commissions that inspire me most.

Every painting begins with a story

Before I pick up a brush, I try to get to know the person I will be creating the painting for.

I consider more than just the size of the canvas or the colour palette. I want to understand the life story, values and emotions the client would like the painting to hold.

Only then do I begin to paint.

This is what makes the result more than a decoration for the wall: an original painting with personal meaning.

From our very first meeting about Life is an art, we worked together to find an idea that would accompany its owner every day.

Ordinary moments hold true value

Everyday life often makes us rush. We hurry through our responsibilities, plan our next goals and think about what tomorrow will bring.

Yet the most beautiful moments are often surprisingly simple.

Sometimes all it takes is to sit with a glass of wine, spend an evening with loved ones or laugh wholeheartedly. At other times, a simple walk or a moment of quiet brings us joy.

To me, these are the moments that give life its true meaning.

And that is precisely the idea I wanted to convey on canvas.

Wine as a symbol of life

The glass of wine in the painting is no accident.

Good wine needs time to mature. In the same way, we gain experience gradually. Every joy, every obstacle and every decision shapes us and creates a story that is ours alone.

The wine in this painting therefore symbolises not only moments of rest, but also patience, maturity and the ability to savour the present moment.

A collaboration I will remember fondly

The painting process itself was not the only source of joy in this commission.

From our first meeting, the painting’s future owner and I connected on a personal level. We shared a similar outlook on life and the values we wanted the painting to reflect.

This allowed the painting to develop naturally and with ease.

Collaborations like this always remind me why I love my work so much.

Every client brings their own story.

I add colour, texture and emotion to it.

Only together do we create an original that no one else will ever have.

Life is an art

I incorporated words into the painting that capture its central idea.

“Some people think life is measured in years. Others measure it in goals achieved. But perhaps there is another way…”

I believe in these words myself.

I do not measure life by the number of successes or tasks completed.

What matters far more are the moments we have allowed ourselves to experience fully.

A smile.

Love.

Friendship.

Peace.

And time spent with the people we care about.

To me, that is the true art of living.

Thank you for your trust

The most beautiful part of my work comes when I hand a painting over to its new owner.

This time, I felt even greater joy because I knew the painting had found exactly the right home.

I thank its owner for her trust, our lovely meeting and the opportunity to create a painting with such a beautiful message.

I hope Life is an art brings her joy every day and reminds her that what is most precious is often not found in life’s great moments.

We find it in the ordinary ones.

In the moments we have allowed ourselves to experience fully.

Because life is not about how many years we have lived.

It is about how we have lived them.
